Instagram Binding Guide & Notes

Binding guide

Whether you're using the Instagram Hashtag module or the IG bot, you'll need to complete this binding.

Before you begin, make sure you have admin access to your company's Facebook Page and Instagram business account, then link your Facebook Page to your Instagram business account.

*This Facebook Page must be the same one connected to Feversocial

1. Make sure Messaging is turned on for your Instagram business account

*If it's off, the bot won't be able to send replies to participants via DM.

2. On your Facebook Page, go to "Settings & Privacy" and click "Linked Accounts."

If your Facebook Page already appears on this screen, the binding was successful

*Be sure to turn on "Allow access to Instagram messages in your inbox"

3. Go back to your Feversocial dashboard, click "Sponsor Settings," connect your Facebook Page & Instagram account, and you're done!

[1] In the dashboard, go to Sponsor Settings >> Social Info

[2] Connect Facebook first and click Save, then connect Instagram and click Save
Once your screen looks like the image below, you're all set!

*The authorized Facebook and Instagram accounts must be admins of those accounts

*Authorization lasts a maximum of 90 days — if your promo runs longer than that, be sure to renew authorization before it expires

*Don't change your account settings during the promo, or the authorization may become invalid (e.g. removing the connection or changing your password)
*If the person who granted authorization leaves and is removed as a Facebook admin during the promo, you'll need to re-authorize

*If the Instagram dropdown is empty, check whether your account has a name filled in (see image below)

Important notes — please read carefully!

What should you check before setting up an Instagram promo?

  • On the brand side:

Check that your Instagram is a business account

Check whether your official account can receive messages from people you don't follow

Check whether your official account restricts who can be a follower

  • On the user side:

Is the user's account set to Public?

Has the user turned off comments, or restricted comments to followers only?

Has the user restricted messages from people they don't follow (Settings and Privacy >> Messages and Story Replies >> Message requests)?
Has the user restricted interactions or hidden words?

*Check whether interaction restrictions or hidden words are turned on

*In hidden words, check whether comments and message requests are being hidden

What are the limitations of using an @mention bot on Stories?

  1. Broad trigger scope: The bot detects every @mention. During the promo, any user who mentions your brand account in a Story automatically triggers a bot reply.

  2. Keyword filtering limitation: The system can currently only detect the "mention" action itself — it cannot read any other text or keywords within the Story.

  3. Visual content limitation: The bot cannot yet automatically recognize whether an image or video (e.g. whether it contains a specific product, logo, or group photo) meets your promo requirements.

What should you keep in mind while testing?

  1. The Instagram messaging bot needs to be switched to "Live" before you can test it — for the linked promo, just click the test button.

  2. For the Instagram Hashtag module, remember to click the test button first before testing!

Frequently asked questions

My Instagram or Facebook account is connected to another third-party service (like a chatbot) — will that affect the bot?

If another third-party vendor has primary control, Feversocial won't be able to get the permission needed to post card messages on your official account. If you're using multiple chat apps, we recommend not designating any single vendor as the "primary" recipient — otherwise that vendor will end up controlling all the replies. If you do have a chat app set up as your customer service tool that listens and replies to user messages, you can exclude the keywords set up in Feversocial so it doesn't reply to those.

Can I set up both a bot that watches for users mentioning my brand account in Stories, and one that replies to my own Stories, at the same time?

Yes — the only restriction is that you can't run two @mention bots at the same time; everything else can be freely combined! Just make sure the two bots' "expected post creation time windows" don't overlap!

If a user posts while their account is private, then makes it public a few days later, will the bot detect it?

The user needs to re-edit and re-save that post before the bot can detect it!

I've completed the process of connecting my Facebook Page, but it still doesn't show up in the dropdown. What should I do?

Go to your personal account, click "Settings and Privacy," find "Apps and Websites," click "Business integrations," find "Promotions," click Remove, then go back to your Feversocial dashboard and reconnect it!

I'm sure the user posted, and I've checked every setting, but the system still isn't picking it up — why?

Check whether the user's own photo or video tags (@mentions) your official account within the media itself — if it does, the system won't be able to pick it up. This is a limitation of Meta's API.
